Imaginative Drawing is a free e-book that teaches you how to draw from imagination with a clear, structured approach. Instead of shallow tips or generic tutorials, you’ll build real skills, starting with the fundamentals and progressing toward more advanced concepts in a logical way.
This book is based on over five years of experience teaching drawing fundamentals at the college level to hundreds of students. It’s exactly the resource I wish I’d had when I was learning to draw.

Get Wins! Fundamental Drawing Course
Welcome to my Virtual Classroom
I teach drawing fundamentals using the same structured approach as in my animation school classes, so if you are serious about learning to draw, you’re in the right place. Let’s learn to draw from imagination.
Drawing from imagination is translating ideas into an image that describes form, space, and light. In Pollice Verso, the gladiators are made of 3D forms that appear in space as if seen from a point of view within the arena. The light and shadow behave as if it comes from a single light source.

Now that our goal is clear, we know what skills we need. We start with observational drawing to learn the visual language we use to describe form, space, and light from life.

Next, we learn perspective to invent form and space, allowing us to draw objects from imagination at any angle.

We study how light behaves on form so we can invent convincing light sources.

We then apply these skills directly to learning anatomy, allowing us to draw realistic figures from imagination.

Once we understand how to construct and light what we draw, we learn how to make drawings clearer and more visually interesting through composition.

With this structured approach, we can learn to draw any subject. We can even combine and modify subjects to create something entirely new. If you can do that, you can draw anything you can imagine.

I go into much more detail on all these subjects in my free textbook, Imaginative Drawing.
When you are ready to start learning, start with the ‘Get Wins!’ drawing course. This course teaches drawing fundamentals and gives you a reliable study structure, so you will know what to practice and when.
